The purpose of this Circular is to advise that Developing a Council Community Events Policy – A Toolkit for NSW Councils is now available on the Division’s
website at www.dlg.nsw.gov.au (see ‘Publications’ and ‘Directory of Policy Advice for Councils’ under ‘Events Management and Filming’).

Well-managed events are an important part of vibrant sustainable local communities, contributing to the community social fabric and the local economy.

The Toolkit aims to provide a framework and tools to assist NSW councils develop an events management policy that is responsive to the character and
needs of their local community. The Toolkit includes:

  • Events Management Policy Checklist;
  • Risk management framework, including model risk and emergency management plans;
  • Model Events Management Timeline.

The Toolkit has been designed to complement events management publications produced by the Community Engagement and Events Division, Department of
Premier and Cabinet, including the Event Starter Guide. This is available at www.events.nsw.gov.au.

Councils are encouraged to develop an events management policy that articulates the support they have committed to local events and the requirements they expect event organisers to meet when seeking council approval.
