Elected Representative from a Metropolitan Council 2016
Winner of the Award – Councillor Yvonne Keane, The Hills Shire Council
Councillor Keane is a woman of enormous ability and achievement, with a volunteering spirit. She has paved the way for other women, challenged the status quo wherever necessary; encouraged and enabled other women to fulfil their purpose and has inspired others through her vision and example to make a difference to their community.
As Deputy Mayor and a much-valued community leader, Clr Keane has a proven track record of being a highly versatile, inspirational and influential leader. Through her voluntary advocacy and work, she has achieved extraordinary results particularly for the most vulnerable in the community – children; people living with a disability; and women (and their children) escaping domestic violence.
Clr Keane’s reputation as an advocate for women in the community has led to her appointment to the Council for Women’s Economic Opportunity (CWEO), which drives government policy on advancing the cause of women in NSW.
