Elected Representative from a Metropolitan Council

Winner of the AwardCouncillor Sue Heins, Warringah Council

Councillor Heins has been instrumental in supporting the development of women in her capacity as a Councillor with Warringah Council, as a local business owner, and as a community volunteer.

As Deputy Mayor of Warringah Council, Clr Heins established a gender equity advisory committee which enabled women to be more proactive in applying for senior jobs in the council.

Clr Heins also gained council support for an event to celebrate International Women’s Day. The inaugural event attracted more than 100 women and Warringah Council now mark this occasion annually.

In addition to her role as a local Councillor since 2012, Clr Heins is a local business owner and a past volunteer for not-for-profit organisations.

Clr Heins is the founder of Inspiring Women, a business networking group with branches in Sydney, Shoalhaven and the Illawarra areas of NSW.

Clr Heins is an inspiration to other young women, her drive and determination to carve a successful career is to be applauded.
