Highly Commended – Leeah Daley, Gwydir Shire Council
Leeah is the Deputy General Manager at Gwydir Shire Council. She has actively driven change across Council, and is responsible for implementing a program which has resulted in Council becoming a Learning Organisation - from a very low base, Council now has around 96% of its staff with a Certificate III qualification or above.
Leeah started with Council over 20 years ago as a ‘junior’ in administration, working her way up through Human Resources to be Director, Organisation Development and Deputy General Manager. She is the only female Director at Council, and her role includes a wide range of services including Tourism, Aged Care, Social Services, Payroll and Training.
Leeah is an inspiration to staff, and models how consistent commitment to quality work can enable a person to achieve outstanding results, professionally and personally.
Leeah actively encourages staff to adopt a continuous learning attitude, and provides a mentoring role for many female staff at Council. She encourages women to take on leadership roles, and advocates the enormous benefits that can be gained by embracing change and simply ‘putting your hand up’.
