Councils can now take steps to increase their use of renewable energy and reduce their energy bills with the new DPIE Northern NSW Renewable Energy Blueprint for Local Governments.

The blueprint was developed through workshops hosted in 2018 by the former Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW, the Hon Ben Franklin MLC. The workshops aimed to identify opportunities to leverage the growth of the renewable energy industry in New England and the community renewables capacity on the North Coast.

Councils can now use the blueprint as a guide on how to start renewable energy projects in their local area, including overcoming challenges and known barriers, potential financing models and case studies of regional collaboration and partnerships. Download the blueprint here:

The blueprint was developed by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) in collaboration with representatives of the Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, New England and Namoi joint organisations. Consultant 100% Renewables was subcontracted to develop the resource based on the input of these organisations, and their knowledge of the sector.
