Independent statutory review into Local Government Boundaries Commission

Shelley Hancock – Minister for Local Government

Tuesday, 20 July 2021

The NSW Government today announced an independent statutory review into the Local Government Boundaries Commission.

The review will examine the effectiveness of the membership composition, functions and processes of the Local Government Boundaries Commission.

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock has also released the Boundaries Commission reports into the two elector proposals for Snowy Valleys Council and Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and confirmed that  the current boundaries of these councils will remain in place.

“The NSW Government will not proceed with the demerger proposals for  Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional and Snowy Valleys councils,” Mrs Hancock said.

“The reports do not provide a clear consensus on the issue of demerging and do not provide me with the necessary confidence to make these important decisions.

“This provides both councils with certainty and a plan for the future.”

A reviewer will be announced shortly.

The terms of reference for review are available at www.olg.nsw.gov.au/LGBC-Review.

The Boundaries Commission reports into Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional and Snowy Valleys councils are available at www.olg.nsw.gov.au/lgbc.
