Statement about Save Tumbarumba Shire Inc Proposal
11 December 2018
The proposal by Save Tumbarumba Shire Inc to reinstate the former Tumbarumba Shire Council does not meet requirements under the Local Government Act.
The Office of Local Government made the determination following extensive legal review of the proposal.
Specifically, it has not met requirements under the Local Government Act for the proposal to be signed by an appropriate minimum number of electors.
The NSW Electoral Commission has advised that more than 300 of the people who signed the proposal are not enrolled on the Snowy Valleys electoral roll.
As such, the proposal does not meet requirements for it to be signed by 10 per cent of electors from the Snowy Valleys local government area.
The Office of Local Government has formally notified Save Tumbarumba Shire Inc of this deficiency in its proposal.
It is now up to Save Tumbarumba Shire Inc to determine any course of action.
