Councillor Elaine Malicki, Ku-ring-gai Council
Clr Malicki is the longest serving female councillor at Ku-ring-gai Council, having served for 23 years from 1991. She is a mentor to female councillors and provides support to Migrant Education groups with mainly female members.
Clr Malicki has been greatly concerned about the potential impacts of bushfire throughout Ku-ring-gai and initiated and organised meetings of hundreds of local residents to debrief with representatives of all Emergency Services. She also surveyed 800 residents on issues of concern during fire events. In 2013, Clr Malicki opened the new $3.6 million State Emergency Service / Rural Fire Service Headquarters in Wahroonga, which she constantly championed to make a reality.
Clr Malicki initiated Ward Summits where residents have the opportunity to meet with local councillors and staff to contribute to Council’s forward planning. Clr Malicki also initiated Youth Summits, a Business Forum and Regional Sports Forums to bring the community together. She was a key advocate in the Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre, North Turramurra Recreation Area, as well as several new parks and neighbourhood centres.
