Janice is the Director Community, Ku-ring-gai Council, and is the only female Director in an executive team of six. Janice has over 30 years experience in local government and has tertiary qualifications in library management, and cultural and media policy.
Janice took up her role as Director Community in 2000. She has expanded the role beyond traditional community services such as child care and libraries, to include economic development, sporting facilities, leases, customer service, consultation and media liaiso.
Janice has been a major driver in many key projects including the new Turramurra Youth Centre and recording studio, the new Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre, new council website including live chat with customer service officers and the introduction of popular community events Festival on the Green and Twilight Concerts.
Janice is passionate about ensuring the community and staff lead active and healthy lifestyles. Janice formed the internal Health and Wellbeing Committee, which has introduced successful initiatives including a $100 health and wellbeing rebate for staff, Corporate Weight Watchers, Discounted Gym memberships and lunchtime exercise classes. Janice has been instrumental in ensuring the health and well-being values are extended to the community by introducing the popular Active Ku-ring-gai Program which includes the innovative Junior Golf Program, Come and Try days at sports facilities and Sponsorship of Ku-ring-gai Chase Fun Run and Linfield Fun Run.
As the most senior female staff member at Ku-ring-gai Council, Janice initiated a range of formal mentoring programs that have resulted in successful career progression of many junior staff members both male and female.
Janice is a strong advocate for flexible conditions in the workplace and has helped young women feel confident in the workplace throughout different stages of their career. Janice also attends professional women’s forums with other female staff to enable networking opportunities and build leadership skills of female employees.
