Kristie McLachlan 2014

Kristie McLachlan, Coffs Harbour City Council

Kristie is a qualified Electrician and was the first female Coffs Harbour City Council employee to become a fully qualified Trade Waste Technical Officer by successfully completing Certificate IV -Waste Services Operations and Backflow Prevention (Plumbing).

As Trade and Waste Technical Officer, Kristie represents Council by advising the community and local industry on environmental impacts, and the treatment and disposal of trade waste. Kristie continues to consult and effectively communicate with the public and the media and has developed a ‘one stop information hub’ on waste matters for the Coffs Harbour community and Council.

Kristie’s role also requires her to liaise with various tradespersons from a variety of backgrounds, the majority of which are male. It is common for Kristie to perform site inspections using mechanical and electrical devices, performs manual labour and is well accustomed to ‘getting her hands dirty’.

Each year Kristie participates in the local Careers Expo and encourages young women to pursue a career in local government, and in particular, careers in non-traditional roles.

Kristie was nominated by Mr Neil Sutton, Team Leader Water from Coffs Harbour City Council.
