The Office of Local Government supports councils with the core business of managing infrastructure and providing services to communities.
Councils are responsible for over $150 billion worth of NSW assets. Managing and maintaining infrastructure such as roads, buildings, water supply, sewer networks and stormwater drains is informed by the Integrated Planning and Reporting process.
Infrastructure support includes grants under the current Low Cost Loan Scheme and the previous Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme.
Providing services to meet demand and priorities in local communities is also determined during the Integrated Planning and Reporting process. Services vary between councils depending on location, size, demographics, resources, growth patterns and community preferences.
Councils need to undertake regular service level reviews to continue to provide relevant services that are sustainable in the long term. We develop resources such as fact sheets, guidelines, workbooks and more to facilitate service delivery.
