Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig today visited the RSPCA Broken Hill Veterinary Hospital where construction has begun on a much-needed upgrade of the facility.

A $1.775 million investment from the NSW Government will enable critical redevelopment work to take place at the animal hospital which has been operating since 1974.

The funding for Broken Hill Veterinary Hospital is part of a $10.5 million grant from the NSW Government to RSPCA NSW for upgrades of animal shelters across the state.

The RSPCA cares for more than 17,000 animals in NSW every year.

The investment in the Broken Hill Veterinary Hospital will support the RSPCA in providing shelter and vet treatment services for pets and animals in the local Broken Hill community and far west.

The renovations will involve the construction of an additional consulting room and surgery, new animal wards and animal isolation units, and new surgical preparation and animal treatment areas. It will also fund new veterinary equipment.

RSPCA NSW CEO Mr Steven Coleman thanked the NSW Government for their investment in the Broken Hill Veterinary Hospital.
