09-23 Alcohol Free Zone Evaluation Report

The NSW Government’s response to the outcomes of the "NSW Summit on Alcohol Abuse 2003 - Changing the Culture of Alcohol Use in New South Wales" made a commitment for the Department of Local Government to undertake an evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the alcohol free zones (AFZ) provisions over the past ten years.

The Department has completed the evaluation. As part of the evaluation, all councils in NSW were requested to complete an electronic survey (Circular to Councils 06-19 refers). In addition, site visits to five local council areas were conducted and interviews were held with stakeholders including councillors, General Managers and relevant council staff, Police Local Area Commanders, Aboriginal groups, youth councils, community drug action teams, licensed premises owners and other interested community groups.
